After losing the battle to acquire Doubleclick Microsoft payed 85% premium to acquire aQuantive today. This shows that microsoft is in the game now and is going to start attacking instead of defending in the online advertising industry as Google is growing quarter after quarter in advertising revenues.
This is a typical microsoft move to acquire some big names with the cash in there pockets to enter the market segment where they did not had much presence before in terms of market share. They did this with Windows vs Macintosh, Xbox vs Sony Playstation, GIS systems vs Microsoft street maps, Microsoft one care vs Security softwares, Windows server vs Solaris, Windows mobile vs Palm and now MSN adcenter vs Google. Lets see how this game ends up. Is microsoft so lucky to win everytime in this game or is it too aggressive?
I love this game when microsoft enters a new market and how in next 5-10 years they become the market leader by hook or by crook, its amazing. Is it because of the strength of the management or strength of cash in there pockets or both?
